Disability Access BC209

BC209 is a single storey self catering bungalow on fairly level ground , once on site it is accessed via a tarmac road.

Parking is at rear of the bungalow from which a level path leads to the sliding access door, width 104cm (41″) with a threshold step 20cm high.

The internal door widths are all 71cm (28″).

There is a shower over a standard bath, there are no Disable facilities.

Pets are not accepted but we are happy to accept guide dogs.

Access to the beach is via a steep slip way and wooden steps which are quite steep.

Fire Risk Assessment

Bc209 is a 2 bedroom holiday bungalow, it is generally of sound construction of non-combustible materials.

It has a floor area of just under 40 sq m and the main entrance is in the lounge/kitchen via a double glazed sliding door.  This would be the main exit in the event of a fire and is considered satisfactory as it is on the opposite side to the kitchen where a fire is most likely to occur.  Persons in the room would therefore be moving away from the source of the fire.  Additional exits are via the side opening windows in the bedrooms.  There are considered to be usable by all but the infirm, physically handicapped and elderly.

The bungalow has a fire blanket as well as a general-purpose dry powder fire extinguisher in a purpose made bracket firmly attached to the wall between the front window and kitchen units.  The fire blanket was new in January 2018 and the fire extinguisher was tested in January 2018.  Two torches are provided to supply emergency lighting within the property in case of a power failure.

There is an audible fire alarm and also an audible carbon monoxide alarm fitted in the kitchen/lounge area.  Both are tested on a regular basis and appear to work satisfactorily.

The soft furnishings are complaint with fire regulations 1988 and the mattresses to BS7177 2008.

The property has a Domestic Electrical Installation Certificate dated 23-4-16. All portable electrical appliances were PAT tested or bought new in January 2018 and will be tested annually.

The gas boiler was installed new in January 2018 and was tested along with gas hob to which a safety certificate was issued dated 18.01.2018.

Shop and Launderette

The shop and coin operated launderette which are approx 150 meters away are reached via the tarmac road.  They are accessed through the same door over a step, a ramp can be supplied

Staff are happy to help with practical needs during normal working hours but have not special training.

Getting There

The site is approx 2 miles from the Yarmouth Ferry Terminal from where taxis are normally available.

The nearest bus stop is approx 800 meters.

Access to the site is via an unadopted road which is generally in poor condition.

There is a large outdoor leisure area although no special facilities are provided for disabled guests.
