Disability Access BC214

This statement has been prepared to help people with disabilities and physical impairment to assess whether these premises will be accessible to them. 

The Bungalow

  • Brambles Chine 214 is a self-catering, single story bungalow on a relatively level site.
  • The bungalow is set back approximately 5.25 metres (17ft l inch) from a tarmac road, access from the road across the grassed area is via a 800mm (2ft 8 inches) wide concrete path with grass edge.
  • Access to the bungalow is up via a ramp onto the patio.  From the patio into the entrance door there is another approx.20cm (8 inches) gap.  There is no provision for a wheelchair ramp.
  • The main entrance door opening width is 750mm(29.5 inches) and opens outward.
  • The bedroom doors opening widths are approx. 700mm (27.5 inches)both doors open against a wall.  There is a sliding door into the bathroom and the opening is approx. 600mm (approx. 23.5 inches).
  • Height of all the beds (2x single and 1 x double) is 590 mm (23.25 inches).
  • Height of kitchen work surfaces is 920mm (approx. 36 inches).
  • The property comprises of a shower over the bath.  There is no grab rail fitted.
  • Water taps in the bathroom are of the mixer single lever tap type, the shower control is by manual lever mixer, WC via dual pushbutton.  The kitchen tap is a single lever mixer type.
  • The property is fitted with a battery operated audible smoke detector/alarm.
  • Pets are not accepted with the exception of guide dogs.

The Site

  • The site has a reception which is approx. 200 metres/yards from the bungalow which has level access. Staff are happy to assist with practical needs during normal working hours although have no special training in dealing with specific requirements.
  • The site has a small shop for everyday needs and an access ramp can be supplied on request although the approach is over an untarmaced surface.
  • There is a coin-operated launderette on site via the same access as the shop. Staff are available to assist during normal working hours.
  • There is a large outdoor leisure area although no special facilities are available for disabled guests. Access to the beach is via a steep slipway and steps.
  • Transport to local entertainment facilities are available in the evening in high season. Folded wheel chairs can be carried.

Getting There

  • The site is approximately  4.8 km (3 miles) from the Yarmouth vehicle/passenger ferry terminal, from where taxis are usually available, and is 200 metres/yards from the nearest bus stop.
  • Vehicular access to the site is practical although via an unadopted road which is in variable condition.
